Claw (of . English claw = claw) is a Jump 'n' Run - computer game , which the company Monolith Productions was developed and published in 1997. Today it is one of the classics among the two-dimensional games of skill, although it is no longer available in stores.

action

The player takes on the character of a cat who calls himself Captain Nathaniel Joseph Claw . He is a pirate and is in command of a pirate ship. Claw is taken prisoner and taken to La Roca prison (from Spanish la roca = rock, rock). In the dark cell he discovers a stone slab on the prison wall, behind which there is a hiding place. An old tomcat named Edward Toben has written down the secret of the amulet of the nine lives in it. It says, whoever finds the 9 magical gemstones and puts them together, will develop the power of the amulet and be invincible. Claw breaks out of prison and goes in search of the gems.

Game principle and technology

The game was created in cartoon style and has very lovingly designed textures and animations. So z. B. dynamite explosions, sharp sabers, and hand-to-hand combat movements such as knacks, kicks or throws - unusual for the development standards of the time - shown very realistically. Also worth mentioning are the many video and audio sequences adapted to the situation.

The game has a total of 14 different levels in story mode, with two levels being linked to each other up to level 12. The first of these coupled levels always contains a piece of the treasure map at the end, the second level has an end boss who gives away a gem if he is defeated. As the number of levels increases, the degree of difficulty increases, which can be determined by the difficulty of defeating the opponent and overcoming the areas and characteristics (sting, swamps ...).

Claw has a multiplayer mode in which up to 64 players can play via the Internet or LAN . The player also had the option to automatically download high scores or to register on the Claw ranking list for self-assessment. The latter, however, is no longer possible because all related services have been discontinued.
