Clemens Schwender

Clemens Schwender (* 1956 in Neunkirchen (Saar) ) is a German university professor specializing in media psychology . Since 2011 he has been a professor in the field of media management at the University of Popular Arts in Berlin .

biography

Schwender is a son of the Saarland painter Hans E. Schwender . He studied German , philosophy and psychology at the Technical University of Berlin . Between 1983 and 1993 he worked as a teacher , freelance journalist and industrial consultant.

From 1993 to 1999 he was a research assistant at the Technical University of Berlin . There he did his doctorate on the history of operating instructions using the Berlin telephone directory as an example .

In 2000, Schwender and Katrin Kilian founded the field post archive at the Museum for Communication Berlin , a collection for German field post during the Second World War, on the initiative of Ortwin Buchbender .

From 1999 to 2004 he was a research assistant to Friedrich Knilli and Norbert Bolz . He completed his habilitation on media and emotions and developed evolutionary psychology for media theory .

From 2004 to 2008 he was a professor at Jacobs University Bremen . At the Jacobs Center on Lifelong Learning there, he researched media representations of age and age-dependent modes of reception. This also includes the development and function of taste and aesthetic preferences.

He has held visiting professorships, among others at the University of the Arts in Berlin , the University of Rostock and at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
