Life

Clemens Taesler studied philosophy, cultural and religious history at the Universities of Breslau, Munich and Leipzig. He became known as an author and was a co-founder of the Wroclaw Poetry School . After leaving the Catholic Church in 1911 he was a preacher of the Free Religious Community of Freiburg in Silesia and from 1912 to 1916 of the Görlitz community . Afterwards he was a preacher in the parishes of Danzig, Tilsit and Königsberg and then stayed in the parish of Frankfurt am Main from 1918 to 1962. As a result of his sermons, he was charged several times with blasphemy and insulting the church, but each time he was acquitted.

On May 1, 1933, he became a member of the NSDAP . In 1934 he was banned from lecturing by the National Socialists.

At Taesler's suggestion, the Frankfurt Free Religious Congregation was renamed “ Unitarian Free Religious Congregation ” in 1948 . The German Unitarian Association for Free Religious Culture , which he founded in 1927 and banned in 1933 , was revived in 1949, and Taesler became President of the Federation.
