Clerke is a small impact crater near the eastern shore part of the Mare Serenitatis on the moon . The roughly circular, cup-shaped crater lies in the middle of a system of grooves known as Rimae Littrow , which is named after the Littrow crater to the east . It has a relatively high albedo . The landing site of Apollo 17 is located in a valley southeast of the crater .
Before his name change by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1973 was Clerke as Littrow B referred.
The Catena Littrow crater chain lies north of Clerke .
The crater was named after the astronomer Agnes Mary Clerke .
