life and career
Player career
As a player, Britton began his professional career in 1928 with the Bristol Rovers and moved to Everton in 1930 . Initially only in the second team, he was one of the most important players in the Toffees' FA Cup triumph in 1933 . He was one of the great playmakers of that era. He played his last league game on April 15, 1939 against Preston North End. Internationally, he played nine times for the English national football team .
Coaching career
After World War II , Britton was coached by Burnley FC . After promotion and an FA Cup final, he was coach of Everton FC in 1948 . As the coach of the Toffees, he spent £ 28,000 on new players, which still didn't add to the success. The team dismounted. In 1956 after unsuccessful attempts to rise again, he moved to Preston North End . After very successful years and some "almost championship titles" he had to relegate with this team as well. For the next several years he trained at Hull City . In 1970 he ended his coaching career. Five years later, Cliff Britton died.
