The Clifford Glacier is a large glacier on the Wilkins Coast of the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It flows east-northeast between Mount Tenniel and the Eland Mountains , then east toward the Weddell Sea , which it reaches at Smith Inlet .
The upper section of the glacier was explored by a sled team from the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937) led by the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . The seaward section sighted 1940 a sled team with the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941). In 1947 aerial photographs were taken by the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition , which carried out a mapping in collaboration with the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS). The FIDS named the glacier in 1952 after Geoffrey Miles Clifford (1897-1986), from 1946 to 1954 Governor of the Falkland Islands .
