Clifford Eugene Charlesworth (born November 29, 1931 in Red Wing , Minnesota - † January 28, 1991 in Houston , Texas ) was a NASA flight director during the Gemini and Apollo programs .

Charlesworth was born on November 29, 1931 in Red Wing, Minnesota, United States. In 1958 he graduated from Mississippi College with a degree in physics. After serving as a civilian in the United States Navy and the United States Army's Pershing program , he joined NASA in 1962. Until 1970 Charlesworth worked at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, at Gemini 11 and Gemini 12 he was flight director in charge, Apollo 8 and Apollo 11 flight director in charge of the first shift and Apollo 12 chief flight director of the third shift. From 1970 to 1972 he was the manager of the Earth observation program. He then worked until his retirement in 1988 as deputy head of the payload department of the space shuttle program .

Clifford Charlesworth died of a heart attack on January 28, 1991 in Houston, Texas. He was married and had a daughter and a son.
