Portal Tomb by Cloonlooaun

The large portal Tomb of Cloonlooaun ( Irish Cluain Luáin ) is on the southern slope of a rocky hill, about 3.0 km south of Renvyle, west of Clifden ( Irish An Clochan ) in Connemara in County Galway in Ireland .

The Tomb portal lies on a leveled platform about 10.0 m in diameter on the hill. In the British Isles, portal tombs are megalithic systems in which two equally high, upright stones with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber, which is covered with a sometimes huge capstone.

The portal tomb consists of two upright, approximately 1.8 m and 1.6 m high portal stones and the approximately 1.2 m high door stone in between. The approximately 2.3 m long and 1.4 m wide chamber has two preserved side stones in the southwest. The northwest side stones have collapsed into the interior of the chamber and cover the floor. The large flat stone in the west is the misplaced capstone, it measures 2.4 × 1.55 m and is 0.20 m thick.

Next to the capstone is a pen that appears to be made of the Cairn material .

About 1.0 km to the north is the Wedge Tomb of Ardnagreevagh and to the west is the Court Tomb of Tonadooravaun .
