The former of the Club of Berlin building stands in the Jägerstraße 2/3 in Berlin district center of the district of the same . Built for the Club of Berlin , the listed building is now used by the State Representation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the Club of Berlin.

architecture

The house was built from 1892 to 1893 by the architects Heinrich Joseph Kayser and Karl von Großheim . It was given a richly designed facade made of sandstone in the Neo-Baroque style facing Jägerstrasse , while the facade facing the courtyard, which opens onto Mauerstrasse, was framed in the Neo-Renaissance style with glazed bricks and red sandstone. Rebuilt after damage in the Second World War , from 1999 onwards it was repaired with renovation and modernization by the architects Dinse, Feest + Zurl . The staircase and the sequence of rooms in the halls have been preserved from the original interior.

history

The building was built as a clubhouse for an exclusive men's club, the Club von Berlin (later the German Club of Berlin ). In 1945 it was expropriated by the Soviet military administration and given to the Kulturbund of the GDR . From August 1946 to 1991 it was the seat of the club of cultural workers (later the club of cultural workers "Johannes R. Becher" ). After the fall of the Wall , the property was taken over by federal property. In 1998, the city acquired Hamburg the house, it was restored and along with the corner house (ensemble monument - Building of 1871) to Landesvertretung rebuild.
