Clubwear

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clubwear is the English term for club and disco fashion .

background

Clubwear refers to a segment of clothing that is mainly worn by people when they go to the club or disco . The term found its origin in the context of the techno scene, but was later generally adopted as a term for disco fashion.

Specific clothing styles that were especially worn by disco or club goers have been around since the disco wave of the 1970s (e.g. Saturday Nightfever ). An independent techno-fashion and aesthetic developed since the late 1980s . With the upswing of the techno scene , these styles became increasingly popular in the early 1990s . In the techno scene, people talked about clubs rather than discos, hence the term clubwear. Today other discos are often referred to as clubs.

Both trends (disco and techno) are shaped by the DJ's playing in the club or the disco . Disco and club cultures with their own clothing styles and customary dress codes developed . This distinguishes them from other genres of music in which bands or singers are the focus and therefore concerts are more the focus of interest in the respective scene (e.g. rock , metal ).

Due to the sometimes significant fluctuations in regional styles, clubwear has been less of a style than a clothing genre or a spectrum of clothing styles.

Clubwear today

Today clubwear denotes both the different clothing styles of the electronic and techno scene as well as those of the other club and disco scene. Accordingly, clubwear is a clothing segment with very different facets, not only for young people: Adults also go to party and stage themselves for the club night, approach the usual aesthetic codes or want to be “eye-catchers”. In particular, the tops from the clubwear sector are sometimes designed in a striking way, but pants, shoes and especially accessories often deviate significantly from everyday clothing. The design in the tradition of classic disco fashion is extravagant with eye-catching colors and a body-hugging cut. The spectrum is diverse and subject to trends. Since the classic disco fashion of the 1970s, glamorous styles with shiny and glittering elements have been popular again and again at times. So you can often find large prints or rhinestones on the tops.
