History and economy

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Elmore Manufacturing Company , a pioneer of the brass era in automobile construction , settled here . Clyde is home to a large whirlpool factory with an annual output of 5 million units.

At the 2000 census, Clyde had 6,064 people in 2,304 households and 1,633 families. The population density is 533.3 inhabitants per km². In Clyde there are 2,471 houses, which corresponds to a building density of 217.3 km². 96.04% of the population are white, 0.15% African-American, 0.12% indigenous people, 0.26% Asian, 0.03% are from the Pacific Islands, 2.21% from other races , 1.19% are from two races. 56% of the adult population are married. 74% of the houses and apartments are owned by their residents and are not rented by them.
