Clyde Auditorium

The Clyde Auditorium , popularly The Armadillo (dt .: Armadillo ), a concert theater in Glasgow in Scotland .

On the north bank of the River Clyde , the Auditorium is close to Scotland's largest exhibition and event center, the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Center and the Finnieston Crane . Nearby lies a sailing ship called Glenlee, built in 1868 .

description

The building is located in Glasgow on the site of the former Queen's Dock, which was filled with demolition material from the abandoned St. Enoch Railway Station in Glasgow . It is in close proximity to the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Center and The SSE Hydro arena , which was completed in 2013. Both the auditorium and the arena were planned by the British architecture firm Foster + Partners . The planning and construction period ran from 1995 to 1997.

Exterior

The roof of the 3,000-seater house consists of eight nested ship bows and is intended to recall the past of the Clydeufer as one of the centers of shipbuilding in Great Britain. The nickname Armadillo refers to the resemblance of the concert theater's exterior to the American armadillo .

Events

The Clyde Auditorium hosted the weightlifting competitions at the 2014 Commonwealth Games .
