The computer game Codename: Panzers is a real-time strategy game developed by the Hungarian developer studio Stormregion and distributed in Germany by the publisher CDV . It was set in Europe during the Second World War .

Code name: Panzers - Phase 1

The German campaign begins with the Blitzkriegs against Poland and France and ends with the Battle of Stalingrad during the " Blue Fall ". The Russian campaign begins with repelling the German attack on the suburbs of Moscow and ends after the Battle of Berlin . The Western Allied campaign begins with Operation Overlord and the Normandy landings.

The game places little emphasis on historical accuracy, as far as the functionality of the military units or the exact historical circumstances are concerned, but rather focuses on a fast and easy-to-learn gameplay. It also contains humorous elements, so the corresponding diary entries or field post are read out between the missions .

The publication in 2004 garnered very good reviews in game magazines and was a sales success. Code name: Panzers reached number 1 in Germany's leading GRP sales charts for PC games.

Code name: Panzers - Phase 2

The successor presents itself with larger battlefields and a higher number of different units, and a map editor was built in. The game engine and graphics have hardly changed compared to their predecessor. The scenarios in phase 2 are the German campaign in Africa , the invasion of Italy by the Allies in 1943 and the war in Yugoslavia , the latter allowing a campaign on the part of the Yugoslav partisans .

Code name: Panzers - Cold War

The third part of the Panzers series deals with a fictional conflict around 1949 between the Americans , NATO and the Warsaw Pact , who clash in divided Germany. The title was announced at the end of 2005 for the year 2008, among other things it was promised that for the first time in the series helicopters and marine units will be available. Cold War was no longer distributed by CDV , but by Atari SA . The developer Stormregion has meanwhile been bought by the Belgian 10tacle Studios AG , which however had to file for bankruptcy in April 2007. The software company InnoGlow continued the development. The game uses the engine Gepard 3 developed for the game , which enables physical calculations and thus, for example, individually overturning buildings.

The release was originally planned for March 27, 2008, but ultimately did not take place until March 12, 2009.
