Coelastrum is a genus of colony-forming green algae from the class of Chlorophyceae .

The representatives form hollow colonies that are spherical or polygonal. They usually consist of 8 to 32, rarely up to 128 individual cells (always 2 n ). The diameter of the colony is up to 120 micrometers. The cell wall is smooth or warty. Neighboring cells are connected to one another by cell wall processes.
