The Coesewijne ( Sranatongo : Kusuwini ) is a river in Suriname ( South America ), in the districts of Para and Saramacca . It is an eastern tributary of the Coppename .
River course
The Coesewijne rises in the savannah area , north of Goliathberg. It flows north and runs from the so-called young coastal plain to the west. The Coesewijne flows into the Coppename south of the village of Boskamp, north of the former leprosy station Batavia .
particularities
The southern area of the river is characterized by heavy vegetation, which u. a. is also the habitat of the Caribbean manatee , a species of manatee. In addition, the Coesewijne is partly part of the Ober-Coesewijne nature reserve .
