features

The moths have a wingspan of 48 to 54 mm. The males have a dark green, silvery basic color, similar to Colias chlorocoma , but a little darker and the color varies from bluish to greenish. This hue is mainly observed on the top of the forewings. In some animals, the upper side of the forewings is yellow and thus contrasts strongly with the steel-blue pollinated hind wings. The broad, dark marginal linden of the forewings is diffuse inwards and in some specimens penetrates to the scented scales . It has many, more or less large, yellow, often darkly poured spots. The marginal band on the hind wings is narrow and has a series of clear yellow spots on the inner edge. The underside of the forewings is pale gray and yellow-green in the apex just like the hind wings. In the middle of the hind wings they have two to three reddish-edged spots.

The base color of the upper wing surface of the females is sometimes white and sometimes yellow to greenish, especially on the hind wings. It is more or less veiled with brown scales . The whitish spots in the marginal band are very large, especially on the hind wings. The discoidal spot is yellow. The underside is glossy gray-blue.

The antennae are very dirty pink, the legs are pink, and the edge of the wing is pink-white.

distribution and habitat

The species is in the Alborz Mountains in northern Iran and the mountains in the north-western Iran endemic . The moths fly at altitudes between 2500 and 3200 meters on meadows and stony slopes, especially when a thorny tragacanth species is common there.

Way of life

The moths fly in one generation from June to July. They fly very fast and are even faster than the larger Colias aurorina , which is found in the same area. Hedgehog cushion ( acantholimon ) and tragacanth ( astragalus ) are the food plants of the caterpillars.
