Colin Campbell (born August 31, 1938 in Paisley ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Campbell attended Paisley Grammar School and Jordanhill College of Education . He then studied at the University of Glasgow and then worked as a teacher, where he eventually rose to school principal. In 1999 he lived in Kilbarchan .

In 1976 Campbell joined the SNP. In the late 1990s he was part of the party leadership and was the party spokesman for defense. For the first time he appeared in the British general election in 1987 for elections at the national level. In his constituency of Renfrew West and Inverclyde , however, he received only around 10.1% of the vote and thus clearly missed the mandate for the British House of Commons . In the lower house elections in 1992 he was able to double his share of the vote and in the lower house elections in 1997 in the newly created constituency of West Renfrewshire increase by a further 5.3%, which was not enough to win the direct mandate.

In the first Scottish general election in 1999 Campbell ran for the direct mandate of the West Renfrewshire constituency , but was defeated by the Labor candidate Patricia Godman and thus missed the direct mandate of the constituency. Since Campbell was placed on the first rank of the regional electoral list of the SNP for the electoral region West of Scotland , received one of four list mandates for the SNP in this electoral region and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament . As of June 2001, Campbell served as the party spokesman for defense. Campbell did not run for the next general election in 2003 and left parliament at the end of the legislature.
