Colin O'Donoghue (born January 26, 1981 in Drogheda , County Louth ) is an Irish actor .

Life

O'Donoghue grew up in a Catholic family in Drogheda, Ireland . At the age of 16 he lived in Paris for a month to learn the French language. He later attended the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin to study acting. He is related to the singer Daniel O'Donoghue (head singer of "The Script"). O'Donoghue married his wife, Helen, a school teacher, in 2009 shortly after his appearance on "The Tudors". The couple have been together since they were 18 and have two children: a son (Evan) and a daughter (Millie, May 2017).

Career

Colin O'Donoghue began his film career in 2002 with a role in Home for Christmas . In 2009 he played Philipp the Arguable in the third season of the film adaptation of The Tudors . He celebrated his breakthrough in January 2011 on the side of Sir Anthony Hopkins in The Rite - Das Ritual . He got the role after shooting an application video in a friend's studio and sending it to the production company in the United States . After he made a guest appearance as Captain Hook in the fantasy series Once Upon a Time in 2012 , he was promoted to lead actor a little later.

In addition to his work in film and television, O'Donoghue is a sought-after theater actor.
