Colin Sutherland, Lord Carloway

Colin John MacLean Sutherland, Lord Carloway PC (born May 20, 1954 in Falkirk , Scotland ) is a Scottish lawyer . Since 2015 he has served as Lord President and Lord Justice General and thus as the highest Scottish judge .

Career

He received his law education from the University of Edinburgh . He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1977 and was appointed Advocate Depute in 1986. He has been a Crown Attorney since 1990. In February 2000, he was appointed Senator at the College of Justice and accepted the title of Lord Carloway. He was appointed to the Privy Council in 2008. On August 15, 2012, he was appointed Lord Justice Clerk . His appointment as Lord President and Lord Justice General and thus Chief Justice of Scotland to succeed Brian Gill was announced on December 18, 2015.

Private life

He has been married to Jane Turnbull since 1988. He has two sons with her.
