Collapsing New People is an Austrian electro-pop band founded in 2002 by Cy, Didi Disko and Loona Cox in Vienna .

Band history and influences

The debut album Concrete View was released just a few months after the band was founded . The CD, which was recorded and published entirely using the do-it-yourself process, is sold out today. Stylistically, Concrete View is strongly influenced by post-punk and new wave , the sound is heavily guitar-heavy compared to later releases and still sounds very rough and raw.
The band had their first underground hit in 2003 with the track
Revolution Girl , which was only released on the compilation New Dark Age Vol. 1 . Shortly after the release, Loona Cox left the band and her place was taken by Lola Blixx. In 2005, the second album, Collapsing New World, was released, which sounds much more sophisticated than the debut, both in terms of sound technology and songwriting. The songs are more electronic and melodic and show a strong pop influence for the first time despite the still gloomy mood . Songs like Regressive Attack or Collapse Collide Capitulate were published on numerous compilations. Despite the relative success of the CD, things got quieter for the band over the next few years. In the years 2005 to 2011, individual songs were published on the Internet, there were also a few selected concerts, for example in 2006 as the headliner of the Fake Festival in Nancy , in 2009 in New York and Budapest or in 2011 at the Big Brother Awards in Vienna. In addition to Cy and Didi Disko, Ebenezer Nein (bass) and Echo Eerie (synths) completed the live setup, Lola Blixx left the band in 2006.

From 2010 Collapsing New People are working on their album Crash Test Junkie , which was released in June 2012 on the Klanggalerie label. It is therefore their first album that is not distributed on their own. Crash Test Junkie is a consistent further development in the direction of electro-pop , but also has elements of funk or trip-hop and is difficult to assign to a single genre. Collapsing New People was also influenced by Dada , Art Brut , Film Noir and Science Fiction . In terms of lyrics, the songs move between personal ( Stop , Deny Me ) and socially critical themes ( Money , Candy Floss ), with the latter sometimes using the stylistic device of over-identification . The songs Deny Me , Waiting in Your Planet's Glow , Heaven Help Their World Break Down , Always On the Run and Seereen were advertised with videos. Some songs from Crash Test Junkie have been used as soundtracks for political documentaries. Didi Disko left the band in early 2018 to focus on the electro-post-punk project Laut Questions .

On June 13th, 2018, Collapsing New People released their fourth album Dysfunctional Robots on blankTON recordings , which revolves around the topic of "digitization of people".
