Coming Home tells the story of Brian Parsons, a US Army reservist who is called to war and sees his private life ruined as a result.

At the beginning of the film, Brian receives the letter that the reservists are most afraid of. He is drafted into the army to serve in Iraq. Brian reports this to his friend Sarah, who makes his last days memorable by sleeping with him and making sure he knows she will be waiting for him when he comes back. Brian asks his best friend Jimmy to take care of Sarah while he's gone. Brian is injured during a fight and reported home dead due to a mix-up. Months later, when Brian comes home, he discovers that Sarah and Jimmy are now a couple. The news destroys him and he indulges in a vengeful revenge of anger and sexual permissiveness - he says and does things he soon regrets, like getting involved with Jimmy's ex-girlfriend, Monica. While Brian finds peace in the end, he realizes that he can never get back what he once had. The war took it from him.
