Freedom Trail

The Freedom Trail is a 4 km long sightseeing route in Boston ( Massachusetts , USA ) that connects seventeen historical sights. The path is marked with a solid red line on the ground and leads from Boston Common in the city center through the city center, over the Charles River in the north to Charlestown and ends there at the Bunker Hill Monument . The distance to be covered on foot is a popular tourist attraction and allows a quick overview of historic Boston.

Official stations

  1. Boston Common , the oldest public park in the United States.
  2. Massachusetts State House , the seat of the Massachusetts Governor.
  3. Park Street Church , a congregationalist church built in 1809, best known for William Lloyd Garrison's incendiary speech against slavery that was given here.
  4. Granary Burying Ground , a cemetery next to Park Street Church. Here is z. B. Samuel Adams buried, one of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence, but also the victims of the Boston massacre .
  5. King's Chapel , now a Unitarian church, whose previous building dates from colonial times.
  6. King's Chapel Burying Ground , where historical figures from Boston are also buried, including one of the passengers on the Mayflower .
  7. Benjamin Franklin statue and location of the Boston Latin School as America's first public school.
  8. Old Corner Bookstore , one of the oldest buildings in Boston (built in 1718).
  9. Old South Meeting House , a church used as a meeting place during colonial times. This is where the Boston Tea Party was planned.
  10. Old State House , the old Boston City Hall.
  11. The scene of the Boston massacre at the Old State House.
  12. Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market
  13. The home of Paul Revere , an American national hero.
  14. Old North Church , a church built in 1723, the tower of which gave an important signal on April 18, 1775, when Paul Revere undertook his famous midnight ride.
  15. Copp's Hill Burying Ground is a cemetery perched high above the city on a hill. This served as a starting point for the British troops in the Battle of Bunker Hill.
  16. USS Constitution , an American frigate launched in 1797, the world's oldest floating warship.
  17. The Bunker Hill Monument , which commemorates an important battle at the beginning of the Revolutionary War.
