In 2001, Cetelem SA acquired 70% of what was then WKV Bank in Munich and founded Cetelem Bank GmbH. The bank was a joint venture of BNP Paribas Personal Finance SA (formerly Cetelem SA) and the Dresdner Bank AG . In 2005 a stake of 50.1% in BNP Paribas Personal Finance SA and 49.9% in Dresdner Bank was agreed and the Cetelem Bank renamed Dresdner-Cetelem Kreditbank GmbH. As a result of the merger of Dresdner Bank with Commerzbank, the shares were transferred to Commerzbank AG in May 2009. At the beginning of June 2010, Dresdner-Cetelem Kreditbank changed its name to Commerz Finanz.

In August 2017, BNP Paribas Personal Finance and Commerzbank split. BNP Paribas will continue the business activities of Commerz Finanz as the new 100% shareholder. With the introduction of the Consors Finanz brand, it bundles sales financing solutions for retail and online trading as well as for car, caravan and motorcycle houses in Germany. In April 2019 Von Essen Bank was integrated into Consors Finanz.
