geography

The Río Conlara , with its tributaries Arroyo Luluara and Arroyo Chuntusa , flows from south to north and flows south of Concarán (approx. 6 km from Tilisarao ) into the San Felipe reservoir (Embalse San Felipe). The river is mainly used to irrigate agricultural land.

history

The name Concarán comes from the language of the Lasta Caucara or Lasta Concara , the indigenous people of the region, and means beautiful valley . After the arrival of the Spaniards, the place was called Pueblo de la Cruz , until in 1858 the brothers Aniceto , Caferino and Miguel Mora , as well as Nicasio Chirino , donated land for the foundation of a community on the occasion of a tour of the province by Gobernador Justo Darac . The newly created place, the founding date of which is celebrated on June 25, 1858 , was called Villa Dolores . As early as 1860 it was known as an important rest stop on the way to San Luis and in 1864 the first school was built.

In 1893, Jorge Torres discovered black, shiny, heavy stones that contained tungsten in the Quebrada fea . In 1904 the railway reached the place whose station was named Concarán to distinguish it from Villa Dolores in the province of Cordoba . In 1905 the Mina de los Cóndores tungsten mine went into operation. It is about 14 kilometers from Concarán. From 1910, the recruitment of foreign miners to work in the mine begins. In 1934, Law 1367 officially gave the place the name Concarán. Law 1389 declares him the capital of the Chacabuco department, replacing Renca .
