The Concepción was one of the five ships of Ferdinand Magellan's circumnavigation .

The ships were thoroughly repaired, tarred and equipped with additional cannons for the planned circumnavigation in Seville . After a year and a half of preparation, the ships cast off on August 10, 1519: the captain was Gaspar de Quesada and the helmsman was Juan Sebastián Elcano .

After the unsuccessful attack on Mactan , an island in what is now the Philippines , on April 27, 1521 , which cost Magellan and many men their lives, the Concepción , one of only three remaining ships to sail around the world, was abandoned and burned because it was carried by the three of them were in the worst condition and after all the hardships and losses there were simply not enough men left to maneuver all three ships.
