Conerus reservoir

The Conerusspeicher is a listed building in the East Frisian town of Norden ( district of Aurich , Lower Saxony ). It has the address Heringstraße 4 and is used today as an artist's house.

history

In 1808, the then mayor, Peter Friedrich Conerus , commissioned the building of the storage facility , which was named after him. The warehouse is a narrow, elongated, three-storey brick building with original wooden beam ceilings and a central row of columns .

In 1981, the association working group for urban renewal was founded in the north , which campaigned for monument protection. In the same year this association signed a lease for the warehouse, which is considered to be one of the last preserved in the city. The working group then renovated the building and converted it into a workshop and studio house for artists. The building is usually open to the public twice a year: During the Packhausage days, which have a different motto each year, the artists who work in the house or are members of the sponsoring association show their works. The second opportunity to visit the building is every September during the Open Monument Day .
