reception

According to Mark Corroto, who reviewed the album on All About Jazz and awarded it four stars, this recording by the duo feels more patient and relaxed than their previous duo recordings. Maneri and Shipp improvised these 13 pieces with a certain sophistication that elevates the sound to areas beyond categorization such as jazz or “ chamber music ”, according to Corroto. Both musicians are trained to forge pure improvisation and beauty with their musical means, but "here the weapons are thrown away and the music is generated from an unprotected and vulnerable position." Maneri's viola and Shipps piano avoided call and response to secure the structure for each other. The music of this duo is leaderless, but not without an oar.

Also in All About Jazz , Glenn Astarita wrote that two incredibly talented improvisers played a set that emphasized their spontaneous instincts and deep understanding of each other's sense of direction. Here, the duo experimenting on a underlying basis jazz with overtones of the "Chamber Music" <meant is probably New Music >. The artists immersed themselves “in some exuberant and exciting free jazz courses with cadences ”. And occasionally they counter the rigor with playful detours.

According to S. Victor Aaron ( Something Else! ), Despite all the familiarity between the musicians, something new comes out every time they get together; In 13 freely improvised pieces, the two talked and teased each other with the finest hints and whims.
