Whit Dickey (2007)

Whit Dickey (* 1954 ) is an American drummer and composer of avant-garde jazz .

Dickey studied with Milford Graves and worked with Rob Brown (1992), Joe Morris and William Parker ( Elsewhere 1996), Matthew Shipp ( Circular Temple ; 1990 and Prism , 1993) and David S. Ware ( Oblations and Blessings , 1995). In 1998 he recorded the album Transonic in a trio with Rob Brown and Chris Lightcap ; Dickey's compositions are heavily influenced by Monk's titles Criss Cross and Off Minor . The album Big Tap followed in 2002 - expanded to include Joe Morris . In 2003 he played with saxophonist James Finn and Dominic Duval . In 2004 the album In a Heartbeat was created with trumpeter Roy Campbell and Rob Brown, Chris Lightcap and Joe Morris .
