Conor, the Celt (Original title: Roar ) is an American fantasy series in the style of Xena and Hercules . It was broadcast in 1997 on the US cable channel Fox . It was first broadcast in Germany in 2000 on RTL Television . The series was discontinued after only one season with 13 episodes.
action
The series takes place in the 4th century. The Roman army has taken almost all of Europe and is now trying to expand its influence on Ireland . After the young Conor had to watch his tribe being killed and then his beloved being murdered by her own father, only one goal drives him: He wants to unite the tribes to fight for Ireland's freedom. He is supported by Fergus, his protector from childhood, Tully, a young magician, and Catlin, a former slave. Together they fight against the evil Queen Diana and the mysterious Longinus . While the Queen tries to subjugate Ireland, Longinus has other goals. He who stabbed Jesus of Nazareth in the side with the spear was cursed to live forever. He is looking for his spear and has allied himself with the queen for this purpose.
background
The series aired on Fox in 1997, at the height of the Xena and Hercules waves. Fox only broadcast eight of the 13 episodes, after which the station took the series out of the program. The five missing episodes were only broadcast on the Sci Fi Channel in 2000 . In Germany, the broadcaster RTL acquired the rights and broadcast the series from January to May 2000.
reception
Despite the failure, the series won several awards. In 1998 the composer Jon Ehrlich was nominated for an Emmy Award . In 1998 the series won the Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing - Television Episodic - Dialogue & ADR and in 1999 the Award of Distinction for cinematographer John Stokes.
Episodes
Episodes 1–8 were broadcast in the US on Fox, the rest of them only three years later on the Sci Fi Channel, at the same time as the RTL broadcast.
