Conrad Gerard Smith MNZM (born December 10, 1981 in Hawera , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand rugby union player on the position of the inner three quarters . He was on many of the Taranaki youth teams. He later moved to Wellington to study law at Victoria University . Smith has not yet completed all of his exams but received a Bachelor of Law from the university.

Smith plays for the Hurricanes in the Super 14 and for Wellington in the Air New Zealand Cup . He was named captain of the Hurricanes in the 2007 Super 14 season as the regular captain, Rodney So'oialo , was at the All Blacks training camp .

Smith went to Francis Douglas Memorial College. He made his All Blacks debut at the age of 22, against Italy in 2004 . In the 88 international matches he has played so far, he has scored a total of 130 points (26 attempts ). He also plays for Old Boys University in the Wellington club rugby competition. His father Trevor played as a liaison half for Taranaki in the 1970s.

During a Super 14 game for the Hurricanes against the Western Force in New Plymouth on February 18, 2006, Smith broke two bones in his leg, opening a national debate over the All Blacks' indoor three-quarter combination for the 2006 internationals. Smith came later that year, during the Air New Zealand Cup, from injury break.

A number of other setbacks followed in 2007, most of them injury-related. However, he worked his way back to a starting position and has been the first choice in the inner three-quarter position for the All Blacks again since 2008 . With the All Blacks he won the 2011 World Championship .

Smith's quick acceleration, tough tackle and handling of the ball make him a very strong inner three-quarters.
