Constantin C. Giurescu

Constantin C. Giurescu (born October 26, 1901 in Focşani , † November 13, 1977 ) was a Romanian historian and university professor .

Life

The son of the historian Konstantin Giurescu was born in Focşani in 1901. After attending primary and secondary school, he studied in Bucharest and then in Paris . From 1920 to 1926 Giurescu was an assistant at the National Museum of Antiquities in Bucharest. On February 15, 1927, his son Dinu C. Giurescu , a later historian, was born. In the same year he became director of the Ion Bratianu Foundation. In the interwar period he worked as a politician in the socio-political reforms. He was also one of the founders of the "Revistei istorice române" and the "Institutului de Istorie Naţională". Giurescu was also a member of the Romanian Academy and professor at the University of Bucharest . The historian of medieval and early modern southern European history was a prisoner in Sighet prison from 1950 to 1955 . His prison memories were later published. Giurescu died at the age of 76.

Honors

In 1971 he received the order "Meritul Științific".
