The Continental Tire GmbH is part of Continental AG and is a listed German tire manufacturer. Continental Aktiengesellschaft was founded in Hanover in 1871, where the company's headquarters are still located today. With more than 244,000 employees in 61 countries, the company is one of the world's leading automotive suppliers.

Continental's tire division has 24 locations and around 54,000 employees worldwide. Continental Reifen GmbH sells tires for cars, trucks, two-wheelers and special vehicles under various brands and generated sales of 11.4 billion euros in 2018.

Car and light truck tires

Continental passenger car tires are sold in more than 60 countries worldwide. The passenger car and light truck tire division comprises the brands Continental, Uniroyal, Semperit, Barum, General Tire, Viking, Gislaved, Mabor and Sportiva. Continental Reifen is a supplier to many car manufacturers.

Bicycle tires

Pneumatic bicycle tires have been manufactured in the Continental plant in Hanover since 1892 . Continental is the only German bicycle tire manufacturer with production in Germany and is known for technologies such as the BlackChili Compound or the ProTection Apex_ technology for MTB tires. In racing cycling, Continental Reifen GmbH is represented with the Vectran® Breaker technology.

Motorcycle tires

Continental launched the first pneumatic bicycle tire on the market in 1891, and three years later the production of motorcycle tires began with the prototype series petrol motorcycle from Hildebrand & Wolfmüller. Research, development, testing and production of the radial tires take place in Korbach, Hesse.

Truck and bus tires

In the “Goods”, “People” and “Construction” segments, Continental Reifen GmbH offers commercial vehicle tires for goods traffic, passenger transport and construction site traffic. Hot retreaded tires by Continental Reifen GmbH are sold under the ContiRe brand, cold retreaded tires under ContiTread.

A service portfolio for tire management of commercial vehicle fleets is offered under the brand name Conti360 ° Fleet Services. This includes tire selection and assembly, controls, tire reports and help in the event of a flat tire, as well as casing management.

The ContiPressureCheck shows real-time tire pressure and temperature values ​​on a display in the driver's cab and warns of any deviations. The ContiConnect product enables fleet managers to view tire pressure and temperature data for their fleet in a web portal.

In addition to the Continental brand, Continental Reifen GmbH sells truck and bus tires under the brands Semperit, Uniroyal, Barum , Matador, General Tire, Truckstar and Teamstar.

Special tires

Continental Reifen GmbH produces special tires for off-road use. This includes vehicles and machines for agriculture , construction , (intra) logistics and ports such as forklifts, wheel loaders and tractors. For this purpose, diagonal and radial pneumatic tires, off-the-road tires and solid rubber tires are manufactured.

In Europe, Continental is the leader in many markets for industrial solid tires. In the construction and port areas, the company supplies pneumatic tires with integrated tire sensors as intelligent tires. The sensors in the tires continuously measure tire pressure and temperature. In the industrial sector, this development is helpful to e.g. B. to prevent downtime due to damage.

Continental

The premium brand Continental is one of the leading manufacturers in Europe in the original equipment and replacement business. Almost every third new car here is delivered with Continental tires.

The brand tests its tires in company-owned facilities. Summer, winter and all-season tires are tested in Uvade (USA), Arvidsjaur (Sweden) and Hefei (China), among others. Subjective and objective tests are carried out at the test locations. Continental also has its own test tracks near Hanover. On the so-called “Contidrom”, new tires are tested under various weather and road conditions before being released. In independent tests, Continental achieved 511 test wins in 653 tests between 2007 and 2018.

Uniroyal

Founded in 1868 and since 1979 a brand of Continental Reifen GmbH. Specialized in car "rain tires", which are particularly suitable for wet roads and bad weather conditions. The brand is best known for the so-called "Shark Skin Technology", a tire profile that displaces water and prevents aquaplaning. The water flows through the profile grooves and is diverted to the outside.

Semperit

Has been a member of the Continental Group since 1985 and was founded in 1906. Semperit manufactures tires for cars and trucks and is the official tire partner of the German Ski Association (DSV).

Sportiva

Has been the Continental Group's first house brand since 1995. The brand specializes in inexpensive car tires that are particularly quiet when driving.

Barum

Founded in the Czech Republic in 1948 and a brand of the Continental Group since 1993. The brand for budget tires with the motto "Good tires, good prices". Barum produces over 21 million tires for cars, SUVs and vans every year. Many manufacturers deliver their new cars with Barum tires.

General Tire

General Tire was founded in the USA in 1915 and is a manufacturer of 4x4 tires with American heritage. General Tire offers off-road tires for cars, trucks and construction vehicles. The brand has been part of the Continental Group since 1987.

Euzkadi

A Mexican tire manufacturer from the budget segment that has been part of the Continental Group since 1998. The brand sells its car and truck tires exclusively in North and South America. After the plant was closed in 2001, it was best known for a large-scale strike. It was only three years later that workers and the company were able to come to an agreement and reopen the plant.

Viking

The tire manufacturer from Norway has been part of the Continental Group since the early 1990s and was founded in 1931. Viking specializes in the worldwide sale of passenger car tires.

Gislaved

The Swedish tire manufacturer was founded in 1893. Gislaved's focus is on car tires for demanding road conditions. The brand has been part of the Continental Group since 1992.

Mabor

The Portuguese company was founded in 1938 with the support of General Tire. Its name comes from the passenger car tire manufacturer in the wife of another supporter, Ma ria Fernandes Bor ges. Marbor has been part of the Continental Group since 1990.

Matador

Since the first tire was produced by Matador in 1925, the tire manufacturer has been represented in the tire industry with various products for cars and trucks for all weather conditions. The brand has been part of the Continental Group since 2007.
