The Cookson Group plc. was a British conglomerate with headquarters in Fleet Street in London . Until recently the company was listed on the London Stock Exchange and part of the FTSE 250 index . The company was divided into three business areas: refractory ceramics ( Engineered Ceramics ), soldering and specialty chemicals ( Performance Materials ) and precious metals processing ( Precious Metals Processing ).

After more than 300 years of corporate history, the company split on December 18, 2012. The Performance Materials division was floated on the London Stock Exchange as an independent company called Alent . The same applies to the Engineered Ceramics division , which is now formed under the name Vesuvius . Cookson Precious Metals was taken over by Heimerle + Meule .

The Cookson Group employed more than 15,500 people in over 40 countries in its three business areas.

Cookson Engineered Ceramics made last with a share of 60% (1686.00 m £ ) of the total sales of the group with the largest business. More than 11,000 people were employed there. The main brand of the area was "Vesuvius" with headquarters in Kraainem , Belgium .

Cookson Performance Materials had a 29% share of sales (£ 814.00m) and 2,700 employees. The main brands were " Enthone " and " Alpha " with headquarters in Providence , USA .

Cookson Precious Metals Processing with 11% sales (£ 326.00 million) and 1,500 employees was headquartered in Attleboro , USA .

Cookson Group Germany

Alent Germany GmbH (formerly Cookson Performance Materials), Langenfeld

In Germany, the Cookson Group was represented with two business areas: Engineered Ceramics and Performance Materials.

The German headquarters of Cookson Performance Materials was in Langenfeld, between Cologne and Düsseldorf. With around 350 employees, the company developed, produced and sold specialty chemicals (Enthone brand) and electrical engineering (alpha brand) there. Since the takeover of the ORMECON company, in Ammersbek near Hamburg, the company's Nano Science Center has been located there.

The Engineered Ceramics division had branches and production facilities in Borken and Grossalmerode .
