The Vesuvius plc is a British company with headquarters in London , England . The company was created on December 19, 2012 from the split of the British conglomerate Cookson Group into Vesuvius plc and Alent plc. Vesuvius is the direct legal successor of the Cookson Group and Alent is a completely new company. The Cookson Group was founded in 1704 by Isaac Cookson as an association of various companies in the metal and glass business from the Tyneside area .

Vesuvius produces refractory materials for the steel industry and systems for flow control for continuous casting . Under the brand Foseco presents Vesuvius technology for foundries and silicon carbide - and clay graphite -Schmelztiegel ago.
