Alent plc was a British chemical and electrical engineering company headquartered in Woking , England . The company was created on December 18, 2012 from the spin-off of the Performance Materials Division of the British conglomerate Cookson Group . Alent was listed on the FTSE 250 on the London Stock Exchange .
Worldwide there were almost 2,600 employees in the company. Alent's customers included many well-known large corporations such as Apple , Samsung , Hewlett Packard , Dell and LG .
In 2015, Alent was acquired for 1.35 billion pounds by the US company Platform Specialty Products , controlled by investors Nicolas Berggruen and Martin E. Franklin , and the name Alent was taken off the market.
Alent in Germany
Alent's German headquarters were in Langenfeld , between Cologne and Düsseldorf, and operated under the name Alent Germany GmbH . With around 350 employees, the company developed, produced and sold specialty chemicals ( Enthone brand ) and electrical engineering ( alpha brand ) there. Since the takeover of the ORMECON company, in Ammersbek near Hamburg , the company's Nano Science Center has been located there .
