Coombes Ridge is a mountain ridge with north-south orientation on the Oates coast of the Australian Antarctic Territory . It rises 3 km west of Magga Peak and forms the eastern edge of Lauritzen Bay .
The first aerial photographs were taken during the US operation Highjump (1946–1947). The ridge was mapped on February 20, 1959 during the research trip led by Phillip Law as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions with the research ship Magga Dan . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named it in 1959 after Bruce Coombes, airport engineer for the Australian Department of Civil Aviation, who accompanied the research trip to explore possible airfields in the vicinity of Wilkes Station .
