The Lauritzen Bay , this 20 kilometer wide and icy bay at the Oates Coast of the Australian Antarctic Territory . It lies between Cape Yevgenov and the Coombes Ridge . The tongue of the Matusevich Glacier protrudes into the bay along the Coombes Ridge, thus limiting it to the west.

The first aerial photographs were taken during the US operation Highjump (1946–1947). The Australian polar explorer Phillip Law sketched and photographed the bay on February 20, 1959 from aboard the research vessel Magga Dan during a voyage as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE). The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named them after the Danish ship owner Knud Lauritzen (1904-1978), owner of the Magga Dan and other ships that were in service with ANARE from 1954 onwards.
