The Copernicus-Gymnasium is a high school in the Baden-Württemberg city of Philippsburg .
history
The school town of Philippsburg housed a Latin school in the late modern period, and "[...] the arithmetic that is so necessary for the local trade [...]" was maintained on May 4, 1965, the Progymnasium Philippsburg "[...] with 66 Schoolchildren (35 boys and 31 girls) in two classes [as a branch of the Justus-Knecht-Gymnasium in Philippsburg]. ”The first headmaster, Kurt Brandes, initiated the new construction of the building that is now part of the gymnasium on the school campus.
The grammar school received a name in 1980. In a survey, Copernicus prevailed over Wernher von Braun and the Humboldt brothers. In a speech on October 18, 1980, the name was given. The model of the school is based on Nicolaus Copernicus.
Profiles
- Linguistic profile with the foreign language sequence: English (grade 5) - Latin (grade 6) - Spanish (grade 8)
- Scientific profile with the following subjects: English (grade 5) - French (grade 6) - science and technology (grade 8)
If the organizational possibilities and the supply of teachers allow, students with the language profile from grade 8 onwards can do without the third foreign language and switch to the science profile. Students of the natural science profile will be offered Spanish as a third foreign language from Grade 8, which enables them to switch to the language profile at a later date.
MINT
In 2014 the school received the "MINT-friendly" award and continues to participate in the recertification program. MINT includes the subjects of mathematics, computer science as well as science and technology, which also includes physics, chemistry, biology and NwT.
Cooperations
The school has educational partnerships with Sparkasse Karlsruhe-Ettlingen, Volksbank Bruhrain-Kraich-Hardt eG and SAP AG.

The school is known for the big band, which also gave concerts nationwide under the direction of Michael Baumann. Concert tours led to London and Szentendre in the 1990s. Theater AG has been the second cultural pillar of the grammar school since the 1980s.
