Copiapoa longistaminea is a species of the genus Copiapoa in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet longistaminea comes from Latin and means 'with long stamens'.
description
Copiapoa longistaminea grows strongly branching and forms dense groups of one meter in diameter. The spherical to short cylindrical shoots are gray-green. They measure 7 to 15 centimeters in diameter and are covered with orange wool at the top. The 15 to 21 ribs are notched and broken up into low humps. The areoles are more or less orange in color. The straight, stiff thorns are dark red to blackish in color. They turn gray with age. They become one to three inches long. A central spine is present, but it can also be completely absent. The four to six radial spines are often hardly distinguishable from the central spine.
The bright yellow flowers are 2.2 to 2.5 inches long. The fruits are light green and up to an inch long.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Copiapoa longistaminea is widespread in Chile in the Antofagasta region near Esmeralda .
It was first described in 1963 by Friedrich Ritter . Synonyms are Copiapoa cinerea var. Longistaminea (F.Ritter) Slaba (1997), Copiapoa cinerea subsp. longistaminea (F.Ritter) Meregalli (1992, nom. inval. ICBN -Article 34.1) and Copiapoa calderana subsp. longistaminea (F. Ritter) NPTaylor (1998).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
