The Coppa Luigi Arcangeli 1947 , also Coppa Luigi Archangeli, Circuito di Forli , took place on July 6th on a circuit in Forlì .

The race

In contrast to the races in the previous weeks, such as the Rome Grand Prix , the sports car race in Vercelli , the Vigevano sports car race and the Varese race , all of which were part of the 1947 Italian sports car championship, the event at the Circuito di Forti was without Championship status. The Coppa was named after the Italian racing driver Luigi Arcangeli , who had a fatal accident at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in 1931 .

In the morning, the vehicles with a displacement of up to 0.75 liters competed in a 25-lap race that ended with Carlo Pesci winning a Fiat. In the afternoon, racing cars with a maximum displacement of 1.5 liters took to the starting line. Franco Cortese had celebrated four victories in a row with the new Ferrari 125 Spyder . This winning streak was interrupted in Forli. The glorious pre-war top driver Tazio Nuvolari had returned to Scuderia Ferrari . Nuvolari suffered from severe asthma but won the race by a large margin.
