Sports car race Vercelli 1947, 3rd race
The Vercelli 1947 sports car race took place on June 1st on a circuit in Vercelli and was part of the Italian sports car championship of that year.
The race
After his victory at the Rome Grand Prix in 1947 , which marked the first victory of a Ferrari in a car race, Franco Cortese was also successful a week later at the Circuito delle Terme di Vercelli . There were three races that day on the 1.827 km road circuit. The event for sports cars up to 0.75 liter displacement ended after 20 laps and a driving time of 30: 45,000 minutes with a success by Sesto Leonardi on a Stanguellini S750. The race for vehicles up to 1.1 liter displacement, led over 30 laps, was won by Ferdinando Righetti , who drove a Stanguellini S1100.
The cars with a displacement of over 1.1 liters were the last to go to the start. Cortese won the plant - Ferrari 125 Spyder with a clear advantage over Renato Balestrero having another Stanguellini driving.
