The Grand Prix of Rome 1947 , also IX Gran Premio Roma, Circuito delle Terme di Caracalla, Roma , took place on May 25th on a circuit in Caracalla and was part of the Italian sports car championship of that year.

The race

The sports car race on the Circuito delle Terme di Caracalla near Rome is historically significant in terms of motorsport, as the race marks Ferrari's first success as a manufacturer of racing cars, driven out with a vehicle that was used by the Scuderia's own factory . After the end of the Second World War , there was also a partially uncoordinated amount of car races in Italy. In 1947, the sports car races began to be combined in a separate racing series. One of these races took place in Caracalla. The race track consisted of public roads that were cordoned off for the purpose of the event and poorly secured.
