history

The United Glanzstoffabriken founded in 1924 under the name Bayerische gloss fabric factories AG in Obernburg a production facility for textile viscose . In 1938 the production of viscose yarns as a reinforcement material for car tires began there. After the Second World War , Algemene Kunstzijde Unie (AKU) continued production in the Netherlands. In 1968 the company Enka Glanzstoff was founded through the merger of the Glanzstoffwerke with the AKU. In 1969 AKU and KZO (Koninklijke Zout Organon) became Akzo , but Enka Glanzstoff only became AKZO Fibers in 1988. In 1999 AkzoNobel Industrial Fibers was spun off from the Akzo Nobel Group under the name Acordis and sold to CVC Capital Partners . Three years later the company in Obernburg was spun off as an independent company and became Cordenka GmbH. Production started in Poland in 2003, and in 2011 the Cordus company in Mühlhausen was bought up and incorporated into the company.
