Cordia goeldiana is a tree in the predatory leaf family from central to northern Brazil to the Guyanas .

description

Cordia goeldiana grows as a deciduous tree up to about 25-30 meters high. The trunk diameter reaches up to 70-90 centimeters. The relatively smooth bark is grayish.

The simple, stalked and leathery, bare leaves are alternate. The slender petiole is about 2–4 inches long. The entire-margined leaves are ovate to obovate or elliptical and 8–15 inches long and 3–7.5 inches wide. At the top they are pointed to pointed.

Terminal, more or less hairy, broad panicles are formed. The white, short-stalked, five-fold flowers are double- coated . The flowers are distyle , that is, they have different styles . The narrow, cup-shaped, somewhat rusty, hairy calyx is short two-three-lobed. The crown is short funnel-shaped with 5 longer, up to about 13-17 millimeters long, elongated lobes. The 5 stamens with hairy stamens at the base are located about in the middle of the short corolla tube. The bald ovary is on top with a stylus with a split stigma . There is a discus .

Small, ellipsoidal drupes with persistent, withered perianth and stylus remains are formed.

Taxonomy

It was first described in 1910 by Jakob E. Huber in Bol. Mus. Goeldi Hist. Nat. Ethnogr. 6: 89 (Wrong fruit described). Synonyms are Gerascanthus goeldiana (Huber) M.Kuhlm. & Mattos and Gerascanthus goeldianus (Huber) Borhidi .
