The Cordillera Mazo Cruz (also: Cordillera Maso Cruz ) is a ridge in the Cochabamba department in Bolivia .

The Cordillera Mazo Cruz is one of the more remote mountain regions of Bolivia. The mountain range is forty kilometers long and between five and ten kilometers wide. The ridge of the Cordillera Mazo Cruz is between 4000 and 4500 meters high, its highest peak in the northwest of the ridge has a height of 4601  m .

The Cordillera Mazo Cruz continues the Bolivian Cordillera Real over the Cordillera Quimsa Cruz in a southeastern direction. The Mazo Cruz mountain range lies between 17 ° 05'S 66 ° 46'W and 17 ° 26'S 66 ° 25'W in the border area between the province of Ayopaya in the north-west, the province of Tapacarí in the south-west and the province of Quillacollo in the south-east. In the north, the ridge is bounded by the Río Charapaya , the Río Cocayapa and the Río Yacanco , to the east by the Río Morochata , to the south by the Río Tapacarí and to the southeast by the Río Rocha .

Climate and altitude levels

The Cordillera Mazo Cruz is divided into three height levels . The valleys extend from 2500 to 3700 meters above sea level. The average temperature here is 12 ° C, with an annual rainfall of 600 mm. The puna starts at 3700 meters and ends at about 4000 meters. Here the annual precipitation is only 300 mm and the average temperature is 7 ° C.

The Alto Andino, the Andean highlands , stretches from 4000 meters up to 4600 meters . The climate here is very cold and semi-humid . It rains mainly in the months from November to March, the remaining months are quite dry. The average temperature drops to 5 ° C and the annual rainfall is 600 mm.
