The reefer type Core (also type Clementina ) was designed in the first half of the 1960s by the Norwegian shipyard Bergens Mekaniske Verksted from Bergen for the Israeli fruit export company Maritime Fruit Carriers (MFC) from Haifa. The type ending "... core" is therefore derived from the Hebrew word for "cold".

details

With 16 units built by five different shipyards, the design is one of the most successful designs in the relevant segment and one of the larger of its kind when it comes to construction. From the late 1960s, the core design formed the basis for the larger Supercore design from the same shipyard.

A large part of the ships of the type sailed temporarily under the German flag and were in charter with the Swedish Salén shipping company until the collapse of the MFC in 1976 . Eight of the ships alone were delivered to the Frigomaris Kühlschiff Reederei in Hamburg, where they were designated as the Clementina type .

Some of the ships were converted to orange juice concentrate tankers in the early / mid-1980s .
