Corentin Martins (born July 11, 1969 in Brest ) is a former French football player . He played on the position of midfielder .
Player career
In the club
Martins started his career at Stade Brest in 1988 . He played his first season at Brest in Ligue 2 and rose directly to Ligue 1 with the club. In the following two years he achieved a placement in the middle of the table with Brest. In 1991 he left the Breton and joined AJ Auxerre . After failing to convince at Brest, he became one of the best players at Auxerre. The 1995/96 season was successful for Martins and the club: They won the French championship and the national cup .
He then moved to Deportivo La Coruña in Spain. He stayed there for only a year and then returned to France for Racing Strasbourg . He was successful there too, winning the French Cup in 2001. For the 1999/00 season he was awarded to Girondins Bordeaux , did not show the good performance that he once got at Auxerre. In his last season 2004/05 he played two more games for Clermont Foot and then ended his active career.
National team
Martins played in the French national football team from 1993 to 1996 . On March 27, 1993 he made his debut in the senior national team in a 0-1 win against Austria in Vienna. He took part in the 1996 European Championships in England and reached the semi-finals with the French.
He played 14 caps for France, in which he scored one goal.
Coaching career
Martins began his coaching career in the 2006/07 season at Stade Quimpérois . In 2007 he became sports director of Stade Brest . In this context, he briefly coached the first team in 2008 (after Pascal Janin's dismissal ). In 2012 he became the club's interim coach again after Alex Dupont was fired five games before the end of the season, and from June of that year moved back into the second tier behind Landry Chauvin . After Chauvin's dismissal on April 3, 2013, Martins again acted as interim coach of the relegation-threatened team.
