Ernst Bachmann (born April 7, 1912 in Staffelbach , † September 19, 1995 in Schöftland , reformed , resident in Staffelbach and Bottenwil ) was a Swiss politician (FDP) .

Ernst Bachmann was born on April 7, 1912 in Staffelbach as the son of the municipality clerk and Aargau councilor Jakob Bachmann. Ernst Bachmann began studying law and political science in Zurich , Paris , Munich and Bern , which he completed in 1936 with the academic degree of Dr. iur. completed. To this end, he received his lawyer license in 1937 and his notary license in 1938.

As a result, Ernst Bachmann ran his own practice in Aarau from 1938 to 1945 . In addition, Bachmann was represented on various boards of directors after 1965 , including from 1965 to 1977 as chairman of the board of directors of NOK and of the Swiss Mobiliar insurance company .

Ernst Bachmann, who was married to Sonja née Fehlmann, died on September 19, 1995 at the age of 83 in Schöftland.

Political activity

As a member of the Free Democratic Party, Ernst Bachmann succeeded his father in the Aargau Grand Council, of which he was a member until 1945. Bachmann then headed the finance and military department from 1945 to 1965 as a member of the government . He also served as president of the free-thinking cantonal party. At the federal level, Ernst Bachmann was a member of the National Council from 1955 to 1961 , and then of the Council of States until 1971 .

Bachmann was elected as a financial expert to various federal expert commissions. In addition, from 1950 to 1959 he served as President of the Swiss Military Directors' Conference and the finance delegation of the federal councils. Bachmann's commitment was a federalist state structure.
