Corinne Castel

Corinne Castel , married name Corinne Castel-Nogrette , is a French archaeologist at the Center national de la recherche scientifique .

Career

Castel was director of the Mission archéologique franco-syrienne (the 'Franco-Syrian archaeological mission') in al-Rawda, Syria, and belongs to the Archéorient laboratory . Environnement et sociétés de l'Orient ancien ('Environment and Society of the Ancient Orient') of the Maison de l'Orient et de la Méditerranée (MOM). Her work focuses on the Bronze Age of the Middle East, especially the urbanization of Syria and Mesopotamia , the first cities, habitat and urban development, religious architecture, but also the adaptation to the steppe areas, in particular the role of nomads and settled people in these arid regions of the fertile crescent .

From 1989 to 1993 she worked at the Institut Français d'Archéologie du Proche Orient in Damascus and was awarded her doctoral thesis Habitat urbain neo-assyrien et neo-babylonia in 1991 .
