Cormac Breslin

Cormac Breslin ( Irish Cormac Ua Breisleáin , born April 25, 1902 , † January 23, 1978 ) was an Irish politician of the Fianna Fáil and long-time chairman ( Ceann Comhairle ) of the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament .

biography

Breslin, who was originally a businessman and sales representative, began his political career when he was first elected member of the Dáil Éireann in 1937 as a candidate for the Fianna Fáil . There he represented the interests of constituencies in County Donegal for 40 years until 1977 , first of Donegal West , then from 1961 on from Donegal South-West and finally from 1969 on from Donegal-Leitrim . Between 1951 and 1954 he held the office of Leas-Cheann Comhairle, so was Deputy Chairman of the Dáil Éireann.

After the resignation of President Patrick Hogan , he was then elected on July 14, 1967 to his successor as chairman (Ceann Comhairle) of the Dáil Éireann. Breslin, who held this office until March 14, 1973 and was then replaced by Seán Treacy , renounced in 1977 to run again for the Dáil Éireann.
